The Bone Yard
Slopes of Mauna Kea
These are the ghosts of stately Koa trees on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Prized for its beautiful wood, Koa trees have battled disease, overgrazing of cattle and the behaviors of feral goats. Droughts, harsh winds and long hours of bleaching sun take their toll. Up here, if you turn from the ocean view you can imagine you’re on prairie land.
