Product Description

January 2017 on my birthday a nine mile hike across barren lava fields in Hawaii to see this beauty. The lava flow from uphill created a Lava tube with a wide diameter and so the Lava Hose period was born. I wish I had been able to visit when the Lava output was more vigorous, but unfortunately other commitments prevented that from happening. The weather that day along the coast of lower Puna was overcast with an off shore wind especially strong at the point to view the flow.. So I had great diffused light but it was a challenge to stay upright on a precarious rock. Just another day finding great images on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was also the day I learned that I should carry Duct tape in my camera pack. After hiking out  there I discovered my tripod was broken…and no duct tape anywhere ! So by the end of the day, hiking 9 miles, dragging a useless tripod all the way and trying hard not to get blown off my rocky perch, I still had a great image that is compelling to look at in either metal or paper. 11 x 17 paper print
